Augusta, GA- (October 21, 2020)- APC seeks to recruit youth ages 13-19 for the following:
- Youth Community Change Commission (YC3) to represent the Youth Voice. These individuals will participate in training and technical assistance on the basic tenants of Social Justice and Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR). Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) is a community-based social justice research framework that inclusively supports the leadership and knowledge of youth most impacted by disparities to develop solutions for social, cultural, and political transformation.
- Love Notes 3.0 SRA Curriculum Implementation – These individuals will participate in 13 Love Notes curriculum implementation lessons which takes about 45 minutes to implement. The lesson topics include:
- Relationships Today;
- Knowing Yourself;
- My Expectations—My Future;
- Attractions and Starting Relationships;
- Principles of Smart Relationships;
- Is It a Healthy Relationship?;
- Dangerous Love;
- Decide, Don’t Slide! The Low-Risk Approach to Relationships;
- What’s Communication Got to Do With It?;
- Communication Challenges and More Skills;
- Let’s Talk About Sex;
- Let’s Plan for Choices; and
- Through the Eyes of a Child
Youth will:
- Receive participation incentives for completion of Love Notes 3.0 SRA curriculum implementation; participation in special projects; YC3 meeting attendance; and initial attendance and participation for Love Notes 3.0 SRA (bonus)
- Be eligible to apply for the Augusta CAREs scholarship (High School Seniors Only)
- Spend at least 4 – 6 hours per month meeting with the Augusta CAREs Risk Avoidance Strategy Team.
- Conduct weekly dialogue/conversations with mentees to discuss their experiences including challenges, barriers and opportunities.
- Participate in training and technical assistance on the basic tenants of Social Justice and Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR).
- Participate in training to conduct Youth Participatory Action Research using the various community assessment tools.
- Participate in training on the Mobilizing Action through Planning and Partnerships (MAPP) Assessment process.
